Did you somehow promise to be normal?
Is that why your life doesn’t shine the way you want it to?
Let me put it another way. Is your future going to be your past with a paint job?
Let me explain what I mean: If you were to take a look into the future of most people’s lives you would see that for the largest majority of them, their future will be pretty consistent with their past – except there’s possibly a slight and fairly uninspiring level of improvement. It’s like they took the old jalopy and gave it a paint job in order to convince themselves it was new a vehicle.
I’m not saying this to be mean, but come on there’s a need to be honest (at least secretly with yourself). So seriously, put some thought into it You likely know as well as I do that most people are “waiting” for something or someone to bring about the change they say they want. Maybe “the secret” or some other magical, bull shit thing will come along and solve their problems. But the truth is it won’t, and in a moment I’ll tell you why.
Why is it that most people lives are pretty much the same from year to year?
Why are so many people ‘stuck’ when we live in a time where there is more opportunity, more knowledge and more access to that knowledge than at any other time in history?
I’ll tell you why, but first answer this: Are your life or the lives of the people you love on automatic and if that’s the case, can we get off it?
Let yourself marinade in this thought:
“Most people’s lives are nothing more than the realization and the rationalization of a promise.
A promise to whom, you may ask. A promise or a series of promises they make to themselves that determine their destiny”.
Here’s what I mean. Some of us (consciously or unconsciously) promise ourselves that we’ll live ‘better’ than we have, better than those around us have. As a result we must be willing to live with the consequences of butting up against the people, situations and all of what’s considered ‘normal’ in our lives.
Please be clear, I’m not talking about being some kind of a rebel without a cause, what I am talking about is acknowledging the unfathomable urge that is a mental, emotional, even spiritual itch that must be scratched. An itch that if you scratch it will pull off the scab of normal forever. Rejecting that normal means going deep within to discover your authentic self.
That being said, there is of course another option: Promise to behave, to not be a ‘problem’. That means that you only do what those around you do, you put your head down, do as you are told, and quietly accept your lot in life. This also means you must accept how you are treated as a result of being with the people you’re with in those circumstances.
The question worth asking yourself is which set of promises are you living by, and which ones do you want to live by?
Because that will absolutely determine every circumstance of your life for the next 5-10-20 years
I look forward to reading your feedback.
