Great Recognition – Inc Magazine Top 100 Great Leadership Speakers
I am deeply honoured and grateful for the recognition and acknowledgement.
One day I was chatting with one of the CEO’s that I mentoring. She is an esteemed leader in her industry, a person so many look up to, and for that reason what she said next might surprise you…
“As a leader I have always believed that it is not only important, it’s vital to recognize both privately and publicly the people around me for who they are and for their achievements” I could hear in her vocal inflection that there was more. There was a softening in her voice as she continued; “What’s interesting, is that the higher a person climbs, the more people seem to think that those notes, and supportive words of acknowledgement don’t matter.”
We were discussing that after many years in her industry she said was being given an honour, a recognition for her impact of that industry. She the above because I asked her if receiving this accolade mattered, if it had any real impact on her. She finished what she was saying with these few words of wisdom…
“Yes, I am successful, yes I am well achieved. However, what so many people forget is that we are all human. We all, at least secretly need love and acknowledgement, and I learned that as a leader I must not take such things for granted, I must value every single acknowledgement and use it to self recognize what I’ve achieved. But more importantly, I must allow myself to feel it and show those feelings because that is the example I want to give, and that’s why I take the time to recognize and acknowledge my own people.”
This great lady was and is of course absolutely correct. Human beings, even the highly successful, self motivated ones, all need to be recognized and acknowledged, it’s part of the human condition. I believe that done right, it not only motivates but inspires us to aim higher, while giving us the opportunity to value ourselves.
Guess what, I’m no different!
Inc Magazine Top 100 Great Leadership Speaker!
When I receive an acknowledgement or an accolade I am always honoured. However, it also motivates and inspires me to commit to playing a bigger game, to taking it up a notch and most of all, to think way bigger.
So, when a client of mine shared on my face book what she had discovered, (and that I knew nothing off) you can imagine the excitement that I am named by Inc Magazine as one of the Top 100 Great Leadership Speakers to book for your next conference, I was absolutely over the moon! As my eyes scanned down the list, right there sixth on the page was my name…how freaking cool is that! I’m so honoured to be on the list with people who inspire me, super stars like; Richard Branson, Ken Blanchard, Jack Welch, Brené Brown, Marshall Goldsmith, Tony Hsieh, Robin Sharma, John Maxwell, Bob Burg, Tom Peters, Mark Sanborn, Glenn Llopis, Chris Widener, Gordon Tredgold, Marilyn Tam, and all the others… Wow! I can tell tell you this, sharing space with these folks has definitely inspired and motivated me to shoot higher, to commit to having even greater impact on the organizations and individuals I partner with for 2015.
The real aim of writing this post is to thank everyone of you who has supported me and my team. Thank you to all the leaders who throughout this year brought us in to speak and work with your C-Suite and leadership teams. Thank you to all of you who read and share my books, blogs, all of you who follows me on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Your interaction with me, your commitment to becoming a more authentic “Full Monty Leader”, your commitment to sharing the wealth of my posts, all your likes, your retweets, your comments, I want you to know that all of these things actually gives me the acknowledgement and the recognition to keep sharing through my speaking, and my writing, and that in turn has my industry honour me…so thank you!
This is an inspiring way end to 2014, and I am committed to making 2015 even better!
