Power, it is a very addictive drug!
DON’T READ THIS… Unless you have the time to truly ponder it! It is deep and provocative!
As you are, no doubt aware, there are many forms of power. However, we all innately want, need, to feel that we have power in our own lives. One of the ways we tell ourselves that we have power over our lives is by claiming the power of our choices and decisions.
Unfortunately, very few people have ever actually made an independent choice or decision.
What I mean by that is; most people’s choices and decisions are made via some deeply ingrained conditioning given to them in their formative years. This may be direct, as in; “this is what I learned was right or wrong and that’s why I do or don’t do certain things.” It may also be polar, meaning; “this is what I learned was right or wrong and that’s why I do the opposite.” That being said, most people would never even stop long enough to actually recognize such things and as such; they believe what they are making is “feel will choices”.
There is, however, an awakening that can happen and it usually comes when someone is faced with looking at who they really are beyond the mask they may not have known they were wearing.
The very moment when someone is able to see the leader beyond the mask, in that moment most leaders will feel completely powerless.
Why you may ask, why would they feel powerless?
Because in that moment the deeper revelation is that whatever form of power they thought they had is stripped away and shown as false. I put it to you that most people sense of power is derived from the external evidence of the power they have over others, including convincing others that they are the persona (while secretly they are in all likelihood filled with doubt about it themselves)
Once that power (even though it was false) is removed, it is natural for such a person to begin to go through withdrawal, denial, anger, blaming (particularly if they think/feel that you were the one who exposed them) and scrambling to do everything they can to get back to where they were.
