Psychopathic CEO’s…what species are they? On a lovely sunny afternoon; two psychopathic leaders of the dinosaur world are out for a walk discussing a truce between the species; one of the dinosaurs is the leader of the Prosauropods , the other is the leader of the Raptor’s. As they walk along each telling the other how fabulous they each are, for some reason they stop for a moment to discus how cool it is that they rule the world. Then suddenly the bright sky goes dark, they look up to see that a giant spherical shaped rock with an equally gigantic tail of fire has blocked out the sun. Then BOOM!!! The world goes dark and they and all the other dinosaurs come to an end.
If we were those dinosaurs, I’m sure it would have been unfathomable that we these great, powerful beasts that have ruled planet Earth for somewhere in the range of 165 million years could be gone in a flash. I’m pretty sure right up until the last minute those dinosaurs never saw what was coming. Let’s face it when you’ve had that much power for that long it’s got to feel pretty much like you are invincible. Of course, I realize that I am attributing far more conscious intelligence to those creators than science gives them credit for. However, I have to guess that it was a bit of a shock to go from all powerful in one moment to being future oil fields in the next.
2014 Time Magazine produced an article outlining: Which Professions Have the Most Psychopaths, and right at the of the list: CEO is the profession with the most psychopaths. Chances are pretty good that if you’ve worked in the corporate world, particularly at the highest levels, you’ve likely encountered maybe even had to work for one of these egomaniacal, psychopathic leaders. Their leadership style is simple: “Do as I say, without question, produce or you are gone!”. In a conversation with a friend who’s organization consults for Fortune 50 leaders, he shared with me that these guys actually believe that their tyrannical behaviour keeps their people “sharp”. While in reality; nothing could be further from the truth! Yet, that kind of thinking fits perfectly for a psychopathic CEO
The scientific fact is: Under high levels of stress/fear; 27% of the blood flow to the frontal lobes of the brain gets directed away. That’s the part of your brain that you need in order to make great decisions. Simply put: These tyrannical leaders are consistently making their people 27% dumber I have one thing to say to the psychopathic, dictatorial leaders who are still holding on to power like grim death… There’s a comet coming, and you my friends are going the way of the dinosaurs. No, I’m not talking about some giant chunk of space rock. The comet I’m talking about is the largest workforce in the history of modernity, and they don’t respond the way Gen X, or the baby boomers did.
In 2015 the Millennial’s (Generation Y) out-numbered baby boomers in the work force. (and YES, I am talking about the generation that birthed the “Occupy Movement”) The oldest of this generation are already in their thirties and as such they assuming leadership positions. The news flash is that Millennials are NOT motivated by the same forces as the Boomer or even Gen Xer’s were. Therefore, all the things you psychopathic CEO‘s, you tyrannical leaders used to be able to use as leverage, things like more money and corner offices, simply no longer work, making you and your threats empty and impotent. To all who sit high on your pedestals looking down on those who are lower on the proverbial corporate ladder: You might want to jump off that pedestal very quickly so that you can look up in time to see the mighty power of the millennial comet coming your way.
