Are There Any REAL Leaders left?
When I was a boy, I wanted to be an American. It wasn’t the Cowboys or Hollywood that appealed to me. It was something more, something deeper.
In America, I saw a country where it was truly possible to become more than the stature of your birthplace. I saw America as a country that grew great leaders.
Today, as a man in his 50s, having traveled to many places around the world, I have seen many political leaders from many different nations say one thing and do another. My belief in the inherent beauty in people has grown and sadly, at the same time, so has my cynical view about the words of politicians.
”Every leader, every genius, every star must face the pull toward mediocrity.
The pull that will keep you from your own brilliance is the need to be accepted.
Remember no greatness was ever achieved without opposition”. ~Dõv Baron…
Back on January 20th, 2009, hopeful tears rolled down both my British and my wife’s Fijian cheeks like streams that suddenly appear across a dried up desert after an unexpected rainfall.
I know our tears were merely drops in the ocean of the collective joyous tears being shed not just in the US, but around the world.
On that day, as I watched the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of USA, I saw the shoots of faith burst through in what has been a desert of leadership desperation. Barack Obama had inspired a stream that had awakened a spirit of greatness that had lain dormant for far too long.
Barack Obama did not claim to be a wizard who could wave a magic wand and fix everything. In his Inaugural speech, he made it clear that for dreams to come true work is needed and that part of that work is about being inclusive rather than exclusive.
This man, the new president of the U. S of A was all about Change. Eloquent and articulate, Barack Obama was, for so many, the manifestation of Martin Luther King Jr.‘s civil rights dream.
America may have been, and may still be, if only by a thread, the leader of the free world. However, to be a nation that leads the free world, that nation must have a “True Leader” at the helm. A leader who has integrity, someone who says what they will do, and does what they say. Sadly, it seems to me that there are fewer and fewer True Leaders in the world today.
And so I ask: Where are the contemporary Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Indira Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, JFK?
Where are men and women who are willing to do the work that is necessary to change the world? Are there no REAL leaders left?
Just to be clear: I’m not attacking Barak Obama; remember I was delighted at his having been elected as President. I’m simply asking–Are There No REAL Leaders left?
So what are the qualities of a Real Leader providing Authentic Leadership?
For years I traveled and studied with great masters and along the way, I became fascinated with leaders. Not just any leader, but great leaders men and women who walked their talk, who stood in the face of rejection and were unwavering in their convictions. Some of these leaders were people I personally didn’t like or agree with, but they had certain qualities in common and I decided to make a study of those qualities. In fact, it is upon, the framework of that research that I developed what I call my Core Affluence System for leadership development.
To start off, the term “affluence” is most often assigned as being directly and even exclusively related to money, and that is not the case. The root meaning of the word affluence is flow. So if a person is affluent, they are in the flow. The Core of Core Affluence System is a multi-layered acronym. However, I’d like to share with you the first layer of the Core Affluence System
C: Clarity.
A great leader must have a clarity of purpose. Great leaders know specifically what they want and why they want it!
O: Ownership.
A great leader takes complete ownership of that purpose. They have a burning desire, a sense of mission about their purpose!
R: Resilience.
A great leader stays the course, does not lose focus just because of opposition.
E: Expansiveness.
A great leader has a laser beam level of clarity about the desired outcome, however, they are also expansive in their thinking about how that outcome will come to fruition.
Every great leader I have researched and studied operated from a place of Core Affluence !
In the interest of transparency and at the risk of upsetting some folks, from my position it seems most contemporary leaders, even those in personal development, have become pretty wishy-washy, passive and placating. What they say and what they do seems designed to validate denial and make people feel good for a short time. (And my comments aren’t meant to be taken personally. Some great folks are aspiring to be leaders, but that’s not the same as being a REAL LEADER in the world today)
Much has dramatically changed since I began my path several decades ago. However, I’m left wondering if you still yearn for leaders and teachings delivered by higher caliber leaders who stand in integrity and are willing to call you to stand with them in yours?
I look forward to your feedback
With gratitude,

Dov, I was surprised what you wrote about Obama. He had big opportunity to lead in the Gulf of Mexico gusher, what did he do? Obama is a puppet working for International banks. Their goal? New World Order. One dictatorship.Dicreasing world population by wars, vaccinations, GMO’s-Genetically Modified Organizm,Chemtrails, etc. and the rest of us ? their slaves!
Hey Janeka,
As I said in the article, this isn’t about Obama…It’s about the fact that we just don’t seem to have any real leaders left in the world and that puts the responsibility back square on our shoulders. We have to step up and become the great leaders of our home, our communities and in some cases our governments and countries.
With gratitude, Dov…
I love the acronym c.o.r.e.! Great article. Now is the time for TRUE leaders to step up!
Thanks for sharing:-)
Molly
Delighted that C.O.R.E rang home for you. You will be seeing a lot more of that as we move forward.
With gratitude, Dov….
Hi Dov,
Thanks for the post here. Much about leadership has been percolating in my mind of late, particularly the leadership inherent in motherhood, yet I feel continually frustrated at the lack of true leadership in mothers I meet in my day to day life raising my wee ones. So much of what you wrote about, especially the line “What they say and what they do seems designed to validate denial and make people feel good in the short term” is what I unfortunately encounter for the most part when I meet other moms. I feel absolutely furious at them sometimes, for ‘eating shit and calling it chocolate’ to paraphrase from the book Manifesta. I feel that until women more consistently and collectively understand that they need to step into their power, demand equal pay for equal work (raising children is the lowest paid work out there, yet is the most challenging job I’ve ever done) and committ to teaching about inequality that still exists out there, then we won’t have any real leaders. The leadership starts at home and by deconstructing what we’ve accepted at home as ‘normal’.
Thanks again for all your brave wisdom, Natalie
Hey Natalie,
If we were going to really take on the position that we need more ‘real’ leaders, you are absolutely correct, it would need to start is the home with parenting. And of course that would include the necessity of calling things for what they are and having integrity in the course of words and action.
How can a child learn to keep it’s word if the parent demonstrate that what I say and what in do can be incongruous.
Thaks for your feedback.
With gratitude, Dov…
I love C.O.R.E. Dov! Acronyms make everything easier to remember and it helps bring clarity to areas… Thanks for an amazing post as always!
I will have to say though that in my opinion politicians are puppets more than leaders… they may appear to be great leaders but they really are controlled behind the scenes but unfortunately most of the public is blind to this…. And as Jankea mentioned Obama is a puppet working for international banks and so are the rest of politicians… The whole “system” is quite different! There’s “Appearance” and then there’s “Reality” it’s amazing how the public perceives things because of the media.
I look forward to a day when the general public knows the truth and doesn’t believe everything the tube tells them! Then their minds will be free!
I look forward to future posts!
David
Hey David,
Delighted that you found value in the post. Like I said in the post I’m really not sure if there are any real leaders left on the world stage and that is why the focus of our company is to create Real Leaders who are operating from a place of C.O.R.E. Affluence.
You are so right… What appears to be real and what is real are often very different things.
With gratitude, Dov…

Good question. Not sure on a global scale to the masses there is any obvious leaders. I really don’t take much notice of politicians. Some have aspects of leadership I admire but overall don’t see any inspiring ones. Also leadership in itself can lead to some horrible paths. Adolf Hitler was a leader and a very passionate one that had many followers but where was he leading people?I personally choose people that are guides for me in the way I like to aspire to live in my world. You are one of those handful I see as a very worthy guide for me. Importantly I recognize no one is perfect so my personal choice of leaders *for me* I appreciate their human flaws and imperfections. Ultimately though I got to lead myself first and foremost so searching for leaders is probably something the masses would be best not doing and simply look close to home and recognize in our self and people we know that have aspects of leadership that we can aspire to strengthen those qualities in our self. Collective adoration on a mass scale towards one individual I’ve never found is worth joining in on. Maybe what I find more inspiring is when people work together in events like Live Aid back in 1980’s.
Thanks for outlining what C.O.R.E stands for. Will take some time revisiting this and ponder what it means to me and how I can use more of each in leading me where I take myself on this magical mystery tour of life.
Hey Shaune,
I think you’ve got my point completely…there is an enormous lack of leadership in the world and so now we must all, as individuals, begin to embrace our own leadership and in so doing inspire others.
With gratitude, Dov…

I think its time that the world understood a language that would heal emotions.
Let a person get completely angry or irrate they will gradually go into another direction without another opposing force. When we war on eachother or discourage ourselves from feeling any of the emotions humanity has created we realize there is a world filled with friction. Being responsible is important too. Our own thoughts are our own self-indictment. It takes a lot of great thinkers and doers to create world peace.
Hey Robert, thank you for your comment…very valuable!
Great words Dov, and very clear to understand.
I have seen in my own reality recently, after working for people who have brought up my childhood stuff, that there’s a big difference between a push over and a tyrant, and someone whose assertive. A mentor and not a tormentor as you have said :).
And as mentioned in the comments, yes there could be these agendas behind the scenes, but if our reality is our projection, then the power is always with us.
Thanks Ollie…Absolutely! we can moan and complain as much as we like or we can take on the empowerment of self an the empowerment of other. In truth; that is what every great leader has done.
With gratitude, Dov…

A very good question and I keep asking myself that – in terms of being in leadership over my life. Your quote at the start of your article resonated strongly because I am looking at defining the next 40 or more years of my life now that my children are beginning their journeying in the world. I feel an enormous pull of mediocrity of “it’s not so bad” and “what if I have to walk the rest of my life alone.” Soul searching for answers the past months and I appreciate the appetizer bites you put out there to draw people towards their brilliance and consciousness. I am challenging my own lame excuses for not working towards mastery of my talents and more importantly hording them to myself instead of sharing them as you do. Thanks for being a pathfinder.
Hey Mary,
first off I am honoured to be one of the partners who moves you in whatever way towards the brilliance of who you truly are. Yes, it’s always easier to drift from day-to-day in an ocean of it’s not that bad and one day wake up realizing that ‘was’ your life.
Like the article suggests to fulfill the reason you came to the planet takes the C.O.R.E elements of leadership and that isn’t always easy…but the rewards are worth it!
With gratitude, Dov…

Dov, I really appreciate the spirit from which you write. You enthusiasm is contagious! I have been called to be a leader for decades now and I shrunk back from that call completely until very recently. As I am stepping up now, your words, “The pull that will keep you from your own brilliance is the need to be accepted,” resonate strongly with me. Reading that helped me realize at a deeper level that it is ok for others to come against me. I have seen it as a sign that I was doing something wrong when others became upset or even attacked me.
I am copying your words and reading them again!
Thank you so much for sharing.
In my humble opinion, we were more impressed by many leaders in the past because we didn’t know that, for example, in politics, they were working for the corporations & other oddities. “Progress” was seen as good for the country & all human beings so, anyone moving us towards globalization, unification, plastification, was seen in good terms.
A real leader is someone who moves us, inspires us to be & do more than all we can, or think we can.
Hopefully, leadership will ascend the energy of the chakras & transform itself into a higher definition of power for the world.
